Carbon & Sulfur Analysis

Carbon and sulfur can have important metallurgical and environmental implications for a project. AAL uses ELTRA to determine the carbon (C) and sulfur (S) concentrations in samples. For Total C/S analysis, an aliquot of sample is added to a crucible with accelerator and ran on ELTRA. AAL also provides speciation of inorganic carbon, organic carbon, sulfate and sulfide. To determine the organic carbon and sulfide speciates, the sample may be leached with hydrochloric (HCl) acid prior to ELTRA analysis. Inorganic carbon and sulfate can be calculated using the difference from the Total C/S analysis and the HCl leach residue results. The inorganic carbon and sulfate speciation can also be determined from using Roast analysis, in which the samples are roasted at 550℃ prior to ELTRA analysis. Clients can request Total C/S, HCl Leach or Roast processing depending on the ore types within their projects. These services can be analyzed independently or using the package codes. AAL also has a sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) leach for sulfide determination.
